Linen is perhaps the most ecologically sound, environmentally friendly fibre of all. It is produced from the flax plant which is a renewable resource, needing little help from chemical fertilizers and pesticides to grow successfully. While only the best fibres are used by the Irish Linen industry, no part of the flax plant is wasted; the left over linseeds, oil, straw and fibre are used in everything from lino and soap to cattle feed and paper.
The Irish Linen industry adheres to strict environmental controls throughout the manufacturing process and keeps waste to a minimum. Ireland is a clean, green land and the industry intends to keep it that way.
