This is a 36” x 36” table center, hand made in the famous Battenburg Lace tradition (also, more correctly, named Battenberg tape lace, after the German town of Battenberg).

Battenburg lace is a type of tape lace made famous in North America when featured in the wedding gown of Princess Beatrice, youngest daughter of Queen Victoria, when she married Prince Henry of Battenberg in Germany.

Tape lace, or Dentelle Renaissance Lace, is made by sewing flat, even-width tapes into a pattern and then filling in the open spaces with decorative stitches. Our stunning table center features both "spider web" and "honeycomb" stitchwork. Highly popular in the early 1900s and then again in the late 1980s/early 1990s, it remains a distinctive and recognizable form of lace today, often used for tablecloths, doilies, and other decorative items.

We're bringing Battenburg back!
